Someone has to hold rescues who refuse to follow the rules accountable.

I researched DR before I started fostering for her & your articles are the only thing I found negative about her. In this day & age all ppl have to do is look up how to report a rescue or ask on social media . I don’t agree that they don’t know how to find out.
That’s ok tho you sit up there on your high horse while ppl like her do all of the work. Have a great day

Most people don’t know how/where to report suspicious dog rescues and most states, like WA, don’t have the time or resources to monitor them. And reputable rescues never adopt out sick animals. They keep them for 2-4 weeks to ensure they aren’t sick before they can be put up for adoption.

I don’t think the people who adopted sick puppies and kittens from Desiderata, some of which died, would agree.

At least she’s doing something that’s how I see it.

Many rescues have the same challenges but they still don’t adopt out sick/infected dogs. If there’s problem with the transport van, find another transport. She’s also illegally selling dogs in WA because she isn’t registered to sell dogs here. If you’re doing to run a rescue, do it the right way or don’t do it at all.

No, the dogs aren’t in the best shape but keep in mind that these are dogs that were dumped & unwanted. They were in horrible shape when Miriam rescued them, she gets them vetted, fixed & chipped & if she has fosters available here in Washington they are on the next transport. It’s up to us fosters to get them fattened up. She has to ship them out to make room for new ones because Oklahoma sucks for animals & the rescuing is non stop. As far as the conditions of the transport van she has no say, its a totally separate company that she hires. No it’s not ideal but at least they are out of Oklahoma where they would have been killed. I’ve fostered 3 puppies, 2 had internal parasites, one had kennel cough that was probably contracted on the transport. Fecal tests are done but parasites are also easily picked up like kennelcough is. The transport van also has other rescues animals in the same van….not all of them come from her rescue…so who’s to say those animals didn’t get hers sick?….no, underage animals shouldn’t be transported if that’s what happened! I doubt that happens anymore but at the end of the day it’s about saving the animals that Oklahoma doesn’t care about

Thank you for sharing your story. The most important thing people can to when they have a bad experience with a dog rescue is to share their story so other people will know about it. Please let me know if you get any harassment about your post and I’ll follow up on it.

I must admit, I have some fear of angering the owner, too. But after putting the pieces together, I am very concerned that the organization is not treating their dogs well. I noticed that the puppy I adopted (2020) looked much healthier in her photo than when I received her, just about three weeks later. She was skin and bones, had skin problems on her head (not apparent in the photo), and the vet diagnosed her with three parasites. She became very ill within a few days of arrival. The owner of the organization recommended carte blanc to all the new owners to dose their new dogs with a de-wormer (the vet said absolutely not), explaining that they often have illness when they arrive . It sum, it seems that it was harder for my puppy under Desiderata care than wherever she came from.
